Heading overseas? Last minute checklist!

We're heading to Spain soon, and I can't stop thinking about all the last-minute stuff to do. Here's a handy guide to wrap things up before you jet off, ensuring your trip goes smoothly!

  1. Check your passports

It might seem obvious, but making sure your passports aren't expired is a big relief and one less thing to worry about. Plus, having a passport that expires more than 6 months after your return date can save you from any hassles. Some countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay. Double-check each country's rules!

  2. Get some local currency

How much you need depends on where you're going. Many European countries are mostly cashless, so you might need less than $500 in local currency. Other places might be more cash-focused, so bring more to dodge those pesky conversion fees. Join an online travel group to see what others suggest. Ask your bank if they can order some currency for you.

  3. Start your packing list

I found a cute packing sheet at the dollar store that's been super helpful! It's ready to go by my luggage as I start packing!

  4. Buy what you need

Need new walking shoes? A travel pillow for the plane? A cool travel backpack? Travel-sized toiletries? Make sure you get all those things now before it's too late and you end up paying for expensive shipping.

  5. Figure out the electricity situation

Okay, this might sound silly, but do you have a power converter? If not, you might be in for a surprise! Also, some of our US gadgets are too powerful for overseas outlets. I might have accidentally blown a circuit at a hotel in Spain with my hair dryer back in college, even with a converter! It might be easier to buy a cheap one over there.

  6. Lock in your schedule

Are your hotels booked? Rental cars reserved? Train tickets bought? For big tourist spots, do you have your tickets? Not every country needs this, so check with online groups to see what might sell out. When in doubt, book early! I like to create an itinerary to see everything laid out, but I make sure not to overplan.

  7. Chill out and remember...

You can buy almost anything you need these days! Forgot socks? No biggie, just hit up a store once you get there. Don't sweat the small stuff and get ready to enjoy your trip!
